RUFFLES!

Little girls…. Ruffles…. they belong together!

Last week a sewing bug bit me, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. In comes rufflefabric.com I chose the HOT PINK ruffles and the white ruffles.

It got here Friday and as soon as I got in in the mail I started! In fact we ate dinner super late Friday, sorry family! :)

I got the tutorial from Me Sew Crazy.

It was simple but delicate work. You have to cut it very very carefully. Ruffles need to be flat, but the fabric stretches so its moving constantly. It is very easy to accidentally cut a ruffle that you need!

When you put right sides together to sew up the shoulder and side seams, pin like crazy!! Keep those ruffles lined up and out of the seam!

There are tons of great tutorials out there so just pick one.  But here is my 2 cents. Most of the tutorials are for skirts, because to finish the neck and sleeves is difficult, or it might just be cause I didn't like the way the others looked…  HOWEVER we solved the problem.

Thank you hot pink cord. I took the cord and pinned it right sides together (around the neck and sleeves) then sewed, then flipped it and top stitched.

Ta Da finished! Both dresses took me a couple hours, the longest part was finishing the sleeves and neck- and Grandma helped with that! I am so lucky to have my mom here to sew with me. She is UBER talented, she made my wedding dress and grad dress, and she can fix any mistake I make, faster then it took me to make it! She came up with the cord idea, cause she is just that good. Hopefully one day I can sew half as good as her!

I also left the dresses long so they would last longer- the pattern I used had plenty of growth room in the neck and sleeves, so this dress should fit for a while! Once I finished the dress, I am annoyed the ruffles snagged easily. But they are soo cute.

Two dresses, size 4 and 5, I used 2 yards of fabric, 3 meters of hot pink cording, then of course thread.
Cost- $40 ruffle fabric (including shipping), $3.50 for the hot pink cord and thread.
 But after 2 dresses I still have enough left for 2 matching skirts for the girls!

Tell you what. All those of you who hinted that you want one for your girls- buy your materials, call me up, bring your stuff and we will make it together. Serious I would love to sew with a friend!

Lovin

Things we are LOVIN right now.

The girls LOVE this series of BoM Heros. We read the Book of Mormon every night then after they chose one of the heros to read about. We have #2 and #4 also. I highly recommend these for your children!

Fancy Nancy is also a favorite at this house. Its a popular story for Mommy to read.

The girls watched this on NetFlix the other day. Now they play Ninjas, and K has the BEST moves. its so endearing.

The girls play with this Daily. They love it!! I ask if they want to do a craft and they say- lets play Play Doh!!

This car. Played with all day. ALL DAY.

Taste these. Seriously the Pineapple is AMAZING.

11 Months

11 months!
Almost 1…… sniff

A few things I want to remember before he stops doing them.

He loves carrots. Raw or cooked, he will take forever with a raw carrot, gnawing on it for a hour or so!

Hats bug him. This summer is going to drive me bananas trying to keep his hat on!!

His hair fluffs out the side like a little old man. I love it!

Brother, Mister Sir, and Boss are a few of his nicknames.

Baths are one of his favorite things. Sinks baths, shower baths, or tub baths… doesn't matter to him.

His moglie crawl is to die for! Its sooo adorable!

10 steps is his record. He could be walking by now but…. his sister A is….. hands on. Er- she pushes him over, always. Regardless of Mommy getting after her- so if she is around Brother wont even try and walk.

He will go to sleep on his own in his crib… but still up all night. His record best is up 3 times a night. Usually its more like 6 times… or more. Mommy is very frustrated about this.

He has 2 teeth, on the bottom.

Grandma is his favorite person. No lie. Most of the time he will take her over me.

Favorite toy is his car. But Lego is great fun for him to throw and he likes to empty the CD's or DVD's. Whichever he can reach.

Blankets, soothers, bottles, or sippys… he will not have any of it. NOTHING. I am trying to get him to take SOMETHING other then me to self sooth- but it is NOT working!

He is sooo stubborn. No idea where that come from. ;)


If Mommy is holding someone else Brother all of a sudden needs me. He is not a good Mommy sharer. Especially if I am holding A, he will push or try and bite her. Little stink.

He wears 6-12 months clothing and 0-6 month shoes.

Porridge, alphageties and mashed potatoes are his favorite foods. He will drink water and some milk but he will nurse above all.

We sure do love him!

Penguins, outside and butt cream

Bleh, pretty much sums up my feelings of this week so far.

For some reason life is stressful right now, even though not a whole lot has changed.

We did go to the Zoo Saturday with Daddy. Saw the penguins and elephants. Did the whole zoo park thing for like a hour.. it was good.

Sunday everyone came out for dinner- meaning Laura and Mark and their boy/girlfriend. It was rather squishy with 8 adults. I am ready for one of them to get married… we have been married for almost 6 years and I am ready for my siblings to be eternally happy.

Monday we spent most of the day outside, enjoying the plus 25 degree weather! We took our lunch to the park and played for a hour. Then after naps we spent the rest of the day outside in the backyard. Brother loves his car and dirt, sticks, rocks, grass- really everything about the outdoors. The girls are happy to be playing outside too- their latest pretend includes the excessive about of golf balls in the backyard.

I did make someones day yesterday.
We were driving to go get K from Preschool and I was blowing kisses to A in the mirror and this gentleman who was walking- thought I was blowing him kisses! He gave me a huge grin and waved back  enthusiastically! Oh boy.

Today Brother has been super crabby- teething I suspect.. So we have been nursing and holding- a LOT! Then i finally got him to sleep- so I turned on Princess and the Frog, from Shaw on demand, for the girls to watch while I showered and get thing done… bad idea. A, who is terrified of everything, was soo upset. The Voodoo Man was scary then the large alligaters… the list goes on and on. SOO instead of being productive I held A for 2 hours… It actually didn't bother me, I will take any chance I get to hold that wiggly independent 3 year old of mine!

BTW have you ever thought about a butt rash? I am sure happy I don't have to sit around in a diaper all day with butt cream slathered in my butt crack and leg creases.. just a random thought..

I guess we have been busy- so I'm just gonna keep hanging on! ;)

Girls Blueprint

Way back, when I am Momma Hear me Roar was new Cheri did her sons room. 

She did this fabulous blueprint on his wall, and I have had it bookmarked ever since.

I have been waiting for the right photo to do in the girls room, and in Utah this March I got a AMAZING shot of my ladies!

As soon as I saw how well the photo turned out, I knew exactly what to do with it!

First up- staples. I got a 3foot x 4foot blueprint, for $8.46 I ordered it in Calgary to get shipped to Okotoks for pick up, somehow it got lost, so Huge Thank you to Steven in Okotoks staples who tracked down my lost blueprint!

Then over to Home Depot- another Huge Thank you to NATE for cutting my board to the exact size, and shout out to the other three gentlemen who stood around and razzed him the whole time. 

And great job to K who sat like that all the way home (25 mins), she pushed her feet up against the wood so it wouldn't rest on Brother!

No pain no gain sweetheart!

Then the fun part! Mom and Uncle Mark helped too!  Mom helped me glue it straight on the wood and Uncle Mark kept my over excited children out of the way!

Ta DA!! Isn't it BEAUTIFUL?!?!

Now I originally didn't want to put it there, but it was too big for the other spot. The girls room is rather small so it was hard to get a good shot of it in the room. Let me assure you- it looks PHENOMENAL!

I UBER love this, in fact, I am thinking a family shot to be hung in our room next.

NOW word to the wise: IF you want to do it here is what I would do over next time.

1. Make the board slightly smaller then the print. Then I would have folded the edges over to make it look more like a canvas.
2. When you glue it onto the board, make sure the stamp on the board is on the back side!!
3. We screwed it into the studs, ( Mark actually, thanks little bro) but maybe for my room I will see if I can hang it. Reason for screwing into the wall- it is RIGHT about K's head… for no reason was that going to fall off… so we screwed!

FedEx brought my new glasses. So far 1/2 hate um, 1/2 love um…I like um!

Homemade spring rolls for dinner. This was my last hoarded batch of Lolas- now I have to learn on my own… wish me luck!

I made a run into Okotoks to pick something up for a project Im working on… instead I lost the keys down that hole- luckily Grandpa saved the day.
