I started having contractions three weeks ago. What?
Yes, yes. Three weeks ago.
For three weeks, almost every evening starting at about 6pm I would get painful Braxton hicks/ false contractions/ cramping/ shoot-me-now pain.
My poor family and Justin. I have been useless in the evenings! I would just retire our bedroom or a bathtub and leave the rest of the house to fend for themselves.
Anyways Saturday August 24- I was rather fed up. Done with the whole situation. Justin and grandma and grandpa have been so supportive- but they were done too. So I started off the day on the trampoline for 15 minutes. Then Justin and I took the kids off to finish school shopping- Walmart, staples then onto the mall. Lets just say we walked and walked and walked and walked.
Pulling into High River, Debbie-downer popped out and doubted all we had done. After a quick stop at Extra Foods for some orange juice and caster oil- we headed home.
Have you done Caster Oil? It's gross.
After 2tbsp and some orange juice, I felt like I had gotten the flu. My stomach hurt and I was soon barfing. Lovely.
I headed upstairs for nightly contractions and to barf in peace. I finally fell asleep about 9:30 but I woke up again at 10:30 with a strong contraction. Fell back asleep and then up again at 11:30 with another really strong one. I was really rather annoyed at this point- stupid caster oil, stupid idea, stupid barf.
I fall back asleep again and was up at 12:10am… a strong one again. BLAH! But then I couldn't fall asleep, and got another one strong one right away. I got up, drank some water, walked around and was just waiting for them to stop.
Finally it dawned on me that they might not go away this time.. in fact they just might be getting stronger. So I waddled myself back to bed and timed them. 4 minutes long 2 minutes apart. It took me about 45 minutes to decide to wake Justin up. I got him up at 1:10 and told him it was time.
A small part of me thought I was over reacting- but I went ahead anyway. Justin got up, asked if I wanted him to time me… I told him no- lets just go. We were in the truck and pulling out of High River at 1:30 am.
I almost made him turn around… but a couple more strong ones and we kept going. We pulled into Rocky View at 2:10 and by the time we got up to the maternity ward it was 2:15 am.
The nurse took her sweet time admitting me and once we got into maternity triage the resident Dr came right in. I had seen her before and had told her how fast I progress. So she checked me and I was 8 cm and water bulging.
It was rather crazy after that. They rushed my bed into another room and I had another massive contraction but managed to change beds. As soon as I rolled over my water broke and just missed Justin's shoe.
From there it was just a matter of a couple pushes and out popped our baby girl! The whole thing seemed surreal and waay to fast.
Born at 2:40 am on August 25 coming in at 8 lbs 3 oz and 19.5 inches long.
Justin finally gave in the next morning about 11 am, we choose the name
Grandma and Grandpa brought the kids in at noon, and Grandma Moxley came shortly behind them.
