High River Ward Historian

After the flood the High River Ward decided they wanted to record and remember the experiences of each family. The ward Historian is going to compile each families story as faith and answers to prayers became a everyday part of life for all of us last June.

I wrote this all out, then figured I would want my kids to read it someday too- so I blogged it.

I originally was not going to submit anything, because I still feel guilt considering how lucky our family was in regards to our home and possessions. But Justin and I received a answer to prayer that week. A answer we had been searching for quite awhile.

Everyone was evacuated Thursday, and that following Wednesday the temple opened its doors to High River ward members who wanted to take refuge and feel the spirit of a session. I was 7 months pregnant and rather stressed, and Justin and I were still seeking for a answer regarding Justin's employment. So Mom (Shiela Chipman) and I headed up to temple to meet Justin and Grandpa who were coming after work. Well Dad didn't make it, he was busy dealing with the flooding in the schools in High River, but Justin got there early and picked up some dinner for Mom and I.

Mom and I were running late, we didn't get away on time, the kids were a bit cranky, traffic was silly because of the flooding in Calgary and I wasn't feeling the greatest. We seriously considered scrapping it and just staying in the trailer for the evening. But we headed out anyways, traffic cleared and we made it with time enough to eat Subway in the car in front of the temple.

We headed in to the temple in our street clothes. Justin only had his work clothing and I was wearing a borrowed pair of shorts from my SIL, Grandma was wearing slacks and a top. Nevertheless we were welcomed with open arms, after they found out we weren't random people walking in. :)

Seeing the temple workers with smiles and hugs all around was bliss. They wanted us to be there and couldn't have been more loving. They ushered us down to the baptistry for temple clothing, and we were telling our story to a couple temple workers while they got us some clothing. And all of a sudden out of no where, Brother Watson, a temple worker, said to Justin "I have a job offer for you". But right then the other sister started rushing us out the door cause by that time the session was about to start.

I promptly forgot all about the job offer, in my mind I assumed Brother Watson knew Justin and was going to ask him about a side job. Justin gets asked all the time to do side work, a deck here, some framing there, and I was sure Justin would turn him down considering all that was going on.

Justin didn't forget and thought about Brother Watson the whole session. After the session was over, I just wanted to go home. I was tired, my feet hurt, my whole body hurt, 7 months pregnant sleeping in a trailer couch for a week was not very fun.  But Justin was insistent that needed to speak to Brother Watson. He just kept saying I need to speak to him, I grumpily told him just to forget it, or call him some other time. I still thought Justin knew him.

Justin helped me to a chair and spoke to a member of the temple presidency about the offer he had received and got Brother Watson's phone number.  As we were leaving Justin told me he didn't know Brother Watson from Adam. Brother Watson didn't know that we were looking for a new path of employment, or what a hard worker Justin is, how honest he is, or that Justin was even qualified to do the job.

The next day Justin called, but the number was disconnected. Justin didn't even flinch, he goggled Brother Watson's name and called a couple of Watsons until he found the right one! After hanging up the phone, Justin had a tentative job offer and a interview with a international company.

Justin and I discussed the opportunity and what leaving Martin Construction would be like. We prayed that if this was what the Lord wanted for us, we would feel calm and reassured about changing jobs.

Justin's interview was the next day, and was offered the job, we knew this was the right thing for us. We knew this was our Father in Heaven answering our prayers. Justin started July 8th, 2 weeks later.

In fact, on Sunday (5 months later), the Stake Leaders had Dinner before Stake Conference, Mom being the Stake Choir leader was in attendance. She sat with the Brother Bennett the Temple President and thanked him for opening the temple to the High River residents during the flood and told him of our experience. Brother Bennett then asked "Can I tell you the other side of the story?" He told Mom that Brother Watson had been praying and attending the temple to find a good relabel employee. Someone they could train and move up to a leadership position. Justin was the answer to his prayers, just like he was a answer to ours.

In the middle of a natural disaster, with thousands of people praying, our Heavenly Father answered OUR prayers. It was such a powerful reminder that he knows his children individually and that he loves us.

He loves me, Heather Moxley. He loves Justin. He loves Kalia, Annaliesse, Barker and Remy.
He thinks abouts us, and he wants EACH of us to know of his love.

Paper Chains

Last Saturday Daddy was up in Sylvan Lake for the Day. It was a unexpected trip, so the kids and I just hung at the house all day.

But after naps the girls were getting bored, so I showed them how to make a paper chain.
They had such a fun afternoon.

I let them use tape or a stapler, whichever they prefered. Annaliesse LOVES tape.

Annaliesse got bored after awhile and moved on to writing A's on her loops.

Kalia just kept going and going and going and going… for 3 hours!!!

"Mommy I never want to stop!" "Look how long it is!" "Mommy lets show Daddy, its my special chain!"

Then Annaliesse moved on to play with her favorite toy, Remy!

After all their hard work we strung it up in the Dinning Room. I am thinking paper chains might become a fad!

Shark Tooth

Kalia lost her first tooth November 7th.

Can you say "lost" when really it was "pulled"?

2 of her teeth have been super super loose, but she is not the type to wiggle it constantly. In fact, if you look at the photo below at her top tooth with the gap beside it, has been loose for almost a month. Its so loose that it LOOKS like she has lost a tooth because of the gap, but it has just shifted so far over and not fallen out!

So Saturday Kalia really wanted to lose a tooth. So Daddy, Mommy and Grandma took turns "feeling it" and then Mommy "accidentally pushed too hard and it kinda made a ripping sound. Mommy lost her nerve, then Daddy tried to tie floss around it, but it was too hard.. so he just pulled it out! She didn't cry or anything. It was quite the fun family event.

Now her Shark Tooth can move forward- hopefully!

The Tooth Fairy made her first appearance at our house- and we figure the Tooth Fairy will collect 80 teeth from our house hold, costing her about $160. I hope she is able to use them as a tax write off.

Craft Nights

Craft Nights are going smashingly! First one this Month was November 7th. Wood Crafts

Yes it is a bit crazy trying to get demos done, and wood cut and supplies gathered AND do everything else in my week. But its super fun, and I totally enjoy doing it!

Justin and Grandpa love me super lots to do all the cutting for me!

I have no photos of ACTUL craft night. It is too crazy trying to help 39 people all at once, cart Remy around, gather funds and make sure people don't mess up! Its great fun!

November 14 we did felt hand stitched ornaments. Seriously HOW cute is the Holy family?!?!

My Shepard could use some improving… but he's still adorable. I only have 10 ladies out for the hand stictched one, we all learned the blanket stitch and how to appliqué with the blanket stitch.

One more craft night next week, then a long break until January Jewelry month!

40 days and 40 nights

Christmas Season is HERE… ish.

Well, its here if you ask me. If you ask any other adult in this household Christmas is not here until December 1. BUT THATS ONLY 25 DAYS of celebration.. starting now I get 40!

I am getting all geared up again. Books need to be wrapped, activities and crafts planed for the kids, the kids christmas cookie party to plan, homemade gifts to finish, my sister getting married, a trip to edmonton to plan and budget and baking and chocoloates….etc etc etc.

Its ALOT of crazy fun going to happen.

All that on top of already crazy day to day, minute to minute schedule.

But what has been on my mind lately when its quiet for 3 minutes (give or take)??

Click the photo for link

The CHRISTmas season tends to be nuts, and I tend to fall into bed at the end of the day and pass out.

I want to feel HIS spirit this year, more then anything else.
My beautiful children need to feel his spirit in me as we celebrate his birth.

Then yesterday I came across the PERFECT solution.

I will read the Book of Mormon completely from now until Christmas day.

Starting November 16th there are 40 days and 40 nights until Christmas.

Its going to be hard. All those activities, events, and crafts.

But it is going to be completely worth it.

First Snowman Snowfall

How fun is fresh snow for Snowman!?

The perfect consistency makes Saturdays so much fun! Justin cut all the wood out for craft night in the morning and then after naps the kids and him headed outside!

Poor Barkers hands were like ice, but he had fun anyways!

The girls just kinda followed Dad around and pestered him with questions.

They built the snowman a bit to high and it toppled over. Luckily it was easy to make them into chairs!

Nothing better then Hot Chocolate after!

Made for walking

These boots were made for walking!!

Grandma and Grandpa got Barker some boots a couple weeks ago. He wore them the first time to Aunt Karla's but we forgot them there. Anyways Justin finally remembered to bring them home and they have NOT left his feet!

He insists on being carried outside so he won't get them dirty and can wear his boots inside.

He has napped in them.

Puts them on over his jammies.

I wonder how long it will last?!?!

Rack um' and Stack um'

Someday we will build a house again.
Someday.
We were almost ready when the flood hit. We have a lot and we were getting ready to sign papers at the bank. Then came the flood.

Holding pattern.
The Economy in High River is no where near where it should be.
Justin changed jobs and that always plays a factor in finances.
Banks are leery about Mortgages in High River right now.
Hence we are in a holding pattern.

We are thinking to get the process going again after January. Hoping to dig in May.
BUT until then we now have 5 adults and 4 children living in this house.
Talk about Rack um' and Stack um.
Remy is in our room right now, but she will be moved into the kids room in a couple months.

So last Saturday Justin turned the girls bunk bed into a triple bunk.
He is such a good Daddy and Husband.
He puts my ideas and thoughts into action!
