Working on the Screen Room

We other plans for this Saturday- but we were still worried about Barker. He wasn't quite up to snuff yet and spending the day biking 12 km didn't seem like a smart idea just yet. Instead we tackled a job in the backyard that we have been "discussing" for years.

The summer Justin starting working for Suncoast he brought home a screen room. The screen room is the one Suncoast uses for trade shows, they use the same set up for a couple years until it shouldn't be taken down and set up again. At this point it is handed off to one of the workers or someone in the company who wants one. So this screen room has been in our backyard for the last 2 years and Justin had every intention of putting it up. His 2 biggest obstacles: time and a wife who did NOT want one.

I feel the need to defend myself- See that big Kitchen window we put in the house? And the back door with the big glass window? All that was done for light- light that we would loose with a screen room. I love my Kitchen and tossing that light hurt my heart. Hence the 2 years of, what you could classify as "heated discussions"

In the end I gave in. He does this for a living and he wanted one at our house. It wasn't going to cost us, it is going to add value to the house, a room to hang out in AND give us much needed shade in the back yard. With the planned bike trip from Canmore to Banff called off to give Barker some much needed rest, we had a whole Saturday to start. The screen room didn't even go up- we had some deck work to do first. Justin took all the deck boards off and put plywood underneath the deck boards- to keep the bugs out and add slight insulation.

He got the top of the deck boarded and had the kids help him paint it with Grey Exterior paint. I watched, and cleaned the house, and ran errands and visited with Grandma and Grandpa when they dropped by for a visit. I wasn't needed for this project and sulking just a smidgeon that it was happening.

We spent most the day outside and made it inside before the rain came. A wicked storm that was thrilling to watch. So thrilling that Justin popped the window out of our bedroom window and HUNG Barker out of it. Then Barker jumped out of it. It was- ridiculous honestly.
