Sports Day

Another Sports Day in the books!

I guess, Another LAST Sports Day in the books.

True to fashion I was there to watch the kids for the first part of the morning. It was crazy windy and a bit cold- but they all had a blast.

All of our kids are athletic in some form- none of which they get from me.

Annaliesse had a great last time. Funny titbit about her- she is VERY competitive. 

Durning the station change she runs to the next station to be FIRST inline. Every time. 

This holds true to anything she does. 

The class working on a math sheet- she MUST be first one done. 

First one in the van to go somewhere.

First one changed out of her church clothing.

First one to eat.

Everything. 

We love her- we shall keep her and her eagerness.

Remy is always ready to play.

Always.

She is fast and ready- she somehow ended up as goalie in the soccer station and was rather annoyed- she wanted to do the scoring. Right after the pick she found someone to take her spot and ran out to help her team. 

Remy is in there like a dirty shirt- she loves playing any sport.

Barker is all boy.

He was sweating after the first 3 stations and loving the freedom from the classroom for the morning. He was also secretly thrilled I was there watching- he gave me like 12 hugs and a kiss on the check.

Not so Wonderful Wednesday

Today started out wonderful enough.

I was able to sew and make French Bread in my new French Bread loaf pans 😍

Which of course means it started as a great day, kids got home from school full of energy and wanting attention. We hopped on our bikes and headed for the river and the little bike trails.

As soon as we got to the river, shoes were off and away they went.

It was +24 outside, cool enough to bike ride but warm enough to take a refreshing wade... or err, dunk for the crazy older three. The river was fast and wide- usually at this spot you can walk on dry ground to where that tree trunk is. Remy was much to nervous to wade it, so we watched from the shore and just got our feet wet.

I was watching Barker and praying he wouldn't loose his footing... the last thing I wanted to do was run into the river and grab him. We had fun, playing in the water- but remembering our river bike ride from last year, and laughing about it was almost just as fun!

They played until everyone was good and wet- at least that sounds great. HAHAHA

We played until 5pm then dashed home to eat some dinner before heading to activity days and YW. 

I made French Bread Pizza- which is just the homemade French bread with Pizza sauce (cough cough, Spaghetti sauce), and cheese. Broiled in the oven until it's hot and gooey. The kids loved it. 

Hovered a whole loaf in 10 minutes. It has totally made it into the easy fast dinner rotation!

Until 6 pm Justin had been telling me he was going to be home in time to pick up Annaliesse from activity days at 7- then Barker and Remy from Mom's. At 6:10 he admitted he wasn't going to make it and I made arrangements for Annaliesse to be dropped off at Moms after Activity Days as I had YW at 7. All was fine. 

Until 7:15 I got a text from Justin.

 I was in an accident. 

Now at that point YW had started and I had a van full of 5 girls doing a service scavenger hunt. I stopped and called Justin no answer- figured as much. So I called Dad and go "Hi- Justin was in an accident in Calgary on Deerfoot, he is not answering his phone, I have YW I can't do anything for him for at least an hour and a half- can you please help him."

And went back to my YW activity. 

Dad and Justin handled the accident. Mom had the other kids and we kept going.

By the time I got home at 9 Justin and Dad we're just pulling up from Calgary. The truck wasn't drivable at first, but a Fireman used the jaws of life and prided the body away from the tires so he could drive it. 

PS we have been dealing with the accident now for a few weeks and hopefully soon will come to some sort of decision for the truck. 

As Barker would say it.

Mermaid Donut Pillowcase

Fabricland was having sale and I was needing some fabric backing for 4 quilt tops.

Remy and I went in and as you know if you're a fabric browser, it takes a while.

After about an hour she started getting grumpy and bored, so I had her pick fabric for a pillowcase.

That took up about 20 minutes, then I set her to work measuring fabric. There is a seldom used cutting table by the quilting fabric, so she found a stool to get up to counter hight and a calculator- that kept her busy for another 20 minutes. 

By then I had found backings for all 4 tops and was ready for the real cutting table.

When we got home that afternoon I whipped up the pillow case with the fabric she chose all by herself- its quite the mermaid, ocean, and doughnut display!

Elephant Abstractions

A quilt top I made in the last couple weeks.

This is a paper piecing pattern, which I have never done.

I saw this pattern in 2016 at the Heritage Park Quilt Show and it was on my list! 

It was nerve wracking even to start this quilt- I watched a ton of paper piecing youtube clips hoping I was good enough to pull it off. 

The trunk is the first thing you sew and it is NOT easy. By the end of the first block I was like "what the hell was  I thinking?!?!"

I pushed through it and so happy I did. 

Justin and the kids were a bit annoyed with the house things that got dropped and the super simple supers I prepared as I quilted. But they are used to it- I am a one-track-mind quilter. Once I start I sew solid until the top is done. This one took longer then the normal week and a bit- I sewed for 2 and a half weeks straight. The dinning room table unusable and a total mess. 

But I love it- and hope to be doing some machine quilting on July 20th- I will have 5 quilt tops to quilt 3 twins and 2 throws. 

A June Saturday

Soccer this morning. 

Remy was amazing- her little game station she scored 2 goals for her team. She is very goal oriented, she watches that ball and is determined to play the game to the fullest. 

It's adorable.

Barker had a game in Nanton, and so we left from the field. With a few minutes to spare a Nanton Candy Store stop was needed- we spent to much time and money there PS.

High River Heat played Nanton in an exhibition game.

Back to High River for lunch, Jumpstart and over to Aunt Laura's to help them put together a shed.

Our day ended with a Ward Party YW was in charge of. We had a Pool Party followed by a hot dog roast at George Lane Park. The weather could have cooperated a little more- but tis life.
